I love this shot! It perfectly reflects the heat of the action, and it's amazing that the main 2 payers are almost perfectly sharp. The colors are wonderful too!
It's also great that one can see the number of the player with the ball: informative value is very important in photojournalism.

I would crop the left part of the picture though and maybe the top a little bit too, the entire row of darkness. Try different croppings so that the main action attracts even more attention!

Great job, especially for a first attempt!

First off this is a beautiful shot.

I love the motion in this piece, it's like at any moment the players are going to break the fourth wall and continue the game on my computer screen, or right here in my living room!

The emotion you caught in the players faces and body language is superb, you can clearly see that they both want the ball, want the win.

I like the fact that the focus is on the two players themselves and is blurred around the edges of their bodies. It brings more focus onto the emotion and drive of the game than onto the game itself.

Again, a beautiful shot.

Thank you very much! As the description says, it was my first time shooting sports, so I was a bit nervous, but I like the outcome of this one! :)

it's really good stop action is hard to do... did you have a tripod?

Nope, it was handheld. I only got my DSLR as a gift and I definitely don't have the money to buy anything else for it... So no tripod for me =/ I do have the basic kit and an extra lens and battery, though, so I'm fine for now. Stopping action is much easier for me now that I have a bit of experience, but it really depends on the lighting. The lighting in my high school's gym is absolutely horrible, but this was at a different school and they had decent lighting. Not great, but decent :)

A Nikon D3000 :) I love it so far; I wish my 55-200mm lens had a minimum f/2.8 instead of f/4 or that I could at least buy a 50mm prime.. :( Ah well, I'll get one of the two eventually! :D

ahhh Im a Canon lover personaly... i find Nikons hard to read and change the settings... actually my Canon D20 was a gift from one of my models (Tamara Kristen/Tamara Lewis, shes a wedding dress designer) but I only have a zoom lense... so I can do macro or zoom photos.... cant afford a regular lens :/ i borrow her lense wenever I can lol

I haven't gotten to try Canon, but I don't think I would really care about the Nikon / Canon debate; I'll just shoot with whatever feels comfortable in my hand.

I only have an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm, but I can make do with them. I think being able to use what you have to get the results you want is actually part of the skill involved in photography ;)
